Retro-Scan Header

Create a futuristic header with a retro- scan design.

Step one:

Start with a white canvas. Create a new layer-set titled Retro Scan just to be organize.
In a new layer draw a black rectangle, this will be your header size. Picture guide below is cropped, original width: 600px.

Step two:

Make a marquee selection and set your foreground color to black and background to white. In a new layer add a linear gradient on the marquee selection using the gradient tool.

Step three:

In a new layer draw a larger black rectangle.
Add the following layer styles: Gradient Overlay.

  • Set layer’s blending mode to Lighten.

    Step four:

    In a new layer draw a 1px white line as shown below.
    Set layer’s opacity level to 17%.

    Step five:

    In a new layer make another white line in a different position.
    Set layer’s opacity level to 9px.

    Step six:

    Again make another white line in a different position.
    Set layer’s opacity level to 18px.

    Step seven:

    Finally add your name using font Century Gothic, Bold, 48pt, Sharp and white color.
    Add the following layer styles: Gradient Overlay, Stroke.
    Set layer’s blending mode to Soft Light.

    Step eight:

    In a new layer draw a 6px white line using the line tool with a weight of 6px and anti-aliased checked.
    Add the following layer styles: Gradient Overlay, Color Overlay.
    Set layer’s blending mode to Darken.

    Step nine:

    Make another white line in a different location and layer.

    Step ten:

    If you want custom colors for the retro-scan, edit Color Overlay layer-style.

    Final Image:
